The journey of the Transmontana locomotive began with the delivery of its first unit to the Romanian national railway passenger carrier in 2010. This innovative locomotive is notable for its asynchronous traction motors, featuring six axles and an impressive rated power of 6 MW. The chassis and parts of the bogies still draw from the original EA locomotives of the Romanian railways, on which its design is based.
